Blended Families and Step-Parenting

The blended family is a normal part of today's society. Nevertheless, the difficulties of combining two families can be very problematic. Treatment addresses the specific development, timelines, needs, ages, etc. that create conflicts. Treatment will consider all aspects of each "family unit" and will develop strategies to manage what is not working, as well as build upon the positive resources that each member of the blended family has to offer. Step parenting is a very common role that many adults have to learn. It can be a frustrating process if not approached in a realistic manner. Treatment will focus on education and the development of different ways to adjust to new and old styles of parenting in a blended family.
